Why Stella Marine Services Offers More Than Just a Job
In May 2003 Martin Strothmann, together with his partners, founded an Investment house and a shipping company Stella Marine in Hamburg, which assumed management of the ships held in the ownership of the investors. The nautical and technical management was in the beginning subcontracted to third party companies.
In November 2003 the product tanker “PORT LOUIS” of 38,000 tdw, was taken over as the first ship under Stella Marine´s management. Two additional product tankers of 38,000 tdw and four product tankers of 47,000 tdw each were taken over in 2004.

The year 2005 was noteworthy for the entry in bulk shipping: three Super-handymax bulk carriers of 53,000 tdw each were commissioned.
In 2006 Martin Strothmann sold his shares in the Investment house-subsidiary and took over Stella Marine. In the same year, two more Super-handymax bulk carriers were commissioned, followed by the sixth bulk carrier of the same type in 2007.
In August 2008 Stella Marine Services GmbH & Co. KG moved into new offices at Am Sandtorkai in the Hamburg HafenCity, where it began building up its own nautical-technical management. In November 2009 Asterion Tanker Navigation GmbH & Co. KG was founded, specialising in the technical management of tankers. In September 2013 Stella Navigation GmbH & Co. KG was founded, focussing on the management of dry cargo ships (bulk carriers, containers etc.) In 2014 most of the Stella/Asterion fleet was sold to American investors. Asterion Tanker Navigation GmbH & Co. KG continued to manage seven product tankers under full technical management.
